Cadet programme opens doors for Ayanda
Receiving clerk, Ayanda Ndaba
Transitioning from being a cadet to a receiving clerk at Kangra has been a great learning experience for Ayanda Ndaba. She joined Kangra in 2022 through the mine’s cadet programme. The cadet programme is a training initiative to equip young people from host communities with various skills in the mining sector. Over the years, about 100 local youths have benefited from it.
Ayanda discovered the opportunity through the local community forum in Donkerhoek. She applied because she had a mathematics and science background, which was part of the requirements. She participated in the cadet programme after completing her matric at Methula High School in eSabelweni in Amsterdam. Her experience at the mine sparked her interest in supply chain management. “The opportunity has changed my life because I was never into mining. I wanted to become a teacher, but now I enjoy being a receiving clerk,” says Ayanda.
During the training, Ayanda assisted with receiving and issuing within the procurement department. Ayanda was ultimately appointed as a permanent general worker in August 2023, where she worked as a receiving clerk. A receiving clerk’s role includes recording incoming stock and managing inventory. “I want to do a Diploma in Supply Chain Management, and maybe one day I can become a buyer,” she says.
