Job Post: Engineering Manager

The ideal applicant will meet the following requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma or B degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

  • Qualified GCC (Mines and Works) Engineer.

  • Driver’s license.

  • Computer efficient with experience in engineering programmes.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years’ experience in a similar position in the mining industry.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Change management skills, business acumen skills.

  • Problem assessment, prompt and accurate feedback for breakdown reporting.

  • Be able to interpret complicated technical drawings.

  • Interpersonal skills to motivate and involve people on safety and relevant issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert to provide advice to all relevant parties.

  • Create detailed engineering plans, processes and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.

  • Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.

  • Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performance and the methods used by engineering staff.

  • Conduct various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects.

  • Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs.

  • Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes.

  • Improve maintenance tactics through defect elimination and drive maintenance execution excellence through rigorous planning to ensure on-time and high-quality safe execution.

  • Work closely with the Engineering Department to identify opportunities to improve the technical and people performance of the business.

  • Lead zero harm in safety through active participation in relevant safety audits, incident investigations, inspections and observations. Address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership and ensure adherence to the Mine Health and safety Act.

  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers and contractors.

  • Manage, coach and develop subordinates.

  • Ensure Engineering standards are met as required by the DMRE at all times.

  • Enforce safety, health and environmental integrity principles applicable to area of responsibility.

  • Any additional work that might be required by the Manager.
